good!

Rumsfeld Sued over Prisoner Abuse - CBS News - article at Truthout
... Two human rights groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on behalf of eight men allegedly tortured by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Rumsfeld bears direct responsibility" because he "personally signed off" on policies guiding prisoner treatment, said American Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Anthony Romero...

This is definitely good news. Talk about "bad apples", maybe the tree will get shaken, good and proper!

All I can say to these folks is "Good luck with that'. Because you can bet some court somewhere will throw the case out. The political leaders in this country are never held responsible for the damage and harm they do. It's only the little guy who pays. So shall it be, so has it always been.

Yup, I agree. Noble effort, but I'll be well and truly shocked if they make it stick.

I'm sure hoping the "media" gets hold of the story and brings it to the sheeple's eyes. They need to hear about it and make their thoughts plain. Perhaps, we will hear more upset people?

Hmm, my initial reaction was "WOOOOF"INGHOOO justice comes!"

But yeah, its hard to not be cynical isn't it? Sometimes I feel like we are all living in a Western and the corrupt sheriff and his men are all above the law.

I wonder if conservatives said that about the Clinton Impeachment though? Not that I felt that way... I'm a huge Bill fan. But I try to see things from the other side now & then - even though its hard to push myself into such righteous, fanantical thinking with no regard to humanity, freedom of choice or the basic rules of english grammar. But I try.

I'm not sure the point of this suit is to win it (although the ACLU is a bit like Bush's proverbial pit bull on the pant leg; it doesn't let go easily). The goal may well be to gain substantial media coverage of the really bad stuff (the torture, etc. that the SCLM has largely simply ignored to this point) and to pin the blame on Rumsfeld (and by implication, Bush) where it really belongs, not merely in the courtroom, but in the mind of the public.

I've been an ACLU member (and yes, I literally carry my card) for over 30 years. Damn, I wish I had more money, so I could give them some of it. I can't begin to imagine where we would be today without their vigilance.
