Hank is getting on my good side!
In the past, Henry J. Waters III has ticked me off with some of his views. Lately, though, he's been writing some excellent commentaries. It's like I've been channeling to him:) Special session - Do we need more abortion law? By HENRY J. WATERS III, Publisher, Columbia Daily Tribune (Regarding Governor Blunt's special session call)
These additional laws would cause more hardship, to women seeking abortions. To get an abortion is already a hard decision. To make abortion more inaccessible slashes away at women's rights. It seems that the best thing to do is not get pregnant. Cross your legs, ladies.
...Give him demerits for trying so diligently to preserve the anti-abortion parts of the bill, his focus in the special session. Is this the most important undone business of the past session? If not forgotten altogether, a wishful thought, could these efforts not wait until the next regular session?
The three additional laws Blunt wants would require abortion doctors to have clinical privileges in a hospital within 30 miles of an operation site, would allow civil lawsuits against anyone assisting a minor getting an abortion in another state and would limit who can qualify as a "next friend" to minors seeking judicial consent to get an abortion...
These additional laws would cause more hardship, to women seeking abortions. To get an abortion is already a hard decision. To make abortion more inaccessible slashes away at women's rights. It seems that the best thing to do is not get pregnant. Cross your legs, ladies.
...If Blunt and others really want to reduce the number of abortions in Missouri, they will expand resources for family planning services, our best method for helping young women avoid unwanted pregnancies. Instead, they continually push legislation aimed at making women carry through with unwanted pregnancies...Exactly!
