Beautiful leaves, beautiful day.
The sun was shining and the day was mild. It's been a bit cool, lately. I guess I should get used to it. Winter will be upon us, soon. Here's one of the pictures I took, today.

Friday Cat Blogging-Four.
I headed for bed last night. I turned on the light, and had to run for the camera. Only Lady Fortuna was missing. I found her sitting in the living room, eating animal crackers and drinking a cup of tea. Oh, sure. You don't believe me. Well, I ask you this.... why else is she not in the picture, huh?
Cotton's eye is kind of icky, just now. You know why? I scratched him in the eye. It was not intentional.
Happy Friday! As always, check out the wonderful animal pictures linked for Friday Ark at The Modulator.

Howabout another movie recommendation?
Dodgeball - a true underdog story.
I wasn't expecting a lot when I started watching this movie. I thought it would be funny, ha ha, but I wasn't expecting great hilarity. Boy, oh boy, was I in for a treat! All sorts of twists and turns in this movie. It's almost as good as Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. Well, how do you like that!?! I see Harold and Kumar's new movie is supposed to be out in 2008. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
So, White Goodman wants to take over Peter LaFleur's Average Joe Gym, to make parking space for his own swanky fitness center. Because LaFleur's loan on his gym has gone in arrears, Goodman buys the debt from the bank. There happens to be a very pretty girl working for the bank, handling the paperwork, etc. Goodman tries to catch her interest.
LaFleur has 30 days to get the $50,000. owed. His customers (my favorite is the pirate, Steve) try to help him figure a way to do it. One finally notices the advertisement for the Dodgeball Tournament in Vegas (winning team gets $50,000.) All they have to do is beat a local team as qualifier. They play a girls' team...and lose. But, because one of the girls had tested positive for steroids, the Average Joes end up winning.
In learning how to play dodgeball, they watch a film about the sport. That film is mighty funny. Patches O'houlihan teaches some of the basics to Jimmy -I think that was the kid's name- (who was painting his fence, when a voice asked him if he wanted to play dodgeball). Anyway, Jimmy ends up in an opium den, where he learns that that was where dodgeball was created. At the end of the film, Jimmy learns that dodgeball is a great sport. You can pick on people smaller and weaker than you.
Meanwhile, Goodman builds a team, too. He has all sorts of hulking goons from his fitness center. His team, the Purple Cobras, doesn't play a local team, instead, he explains to LaFleur's team, he bought their way in. Patches O'houlihan, in wheelchair, shows up and tells LaFleur that he would coach the Average Joes.
Goodman has pissed off the bankgirl by getting her fired. She joins LaFleur's team. The team is ready to learn. Ohoulihan says, "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball," and starts throwing wrenches at them. Of course, they're not yet a good team, so they have to learn to dodge. I have to agree with Patches; a wrench thrown at you should help those quick reflexes...Heh...another training method was to dodge busy traffic.
In vegas, one of the team members had ordered new uniforms for them all. The uniforms that arrived were leather and chain attire. Not what the guy ordered... but, they had to put on the uniforms to play... and they did. They lucked out and managed to win the first game. As they were leaving, they ran into the team that had gotten their uniforms. A trade was performed.
After each team beating several other teams, the Average Joes and the Purple Cobras are the last competitors. Lance Armstrong makes a cameo appearance. Chuck Norris's vote makes a difference. William Shatner gives out the trophy. I highly recommend this movie. Funny stuff!
I've not been available to work on the computer, recently. Other things had higher priority. Doctor Office Event. Oh, yeah. The picture has nothing to do with the post, I just felt like placing it there:)

Friday Cat Blogging - Stretching
Mango, stretching before exercising.
When I arrive home, five cats appear from where they've been sleeping or hiding. The other day, I got ready to give the five sweet little darlings their treats. With a great noisy clatter, the broom (that had been leaning against the wall) fell to the floor.
The unexpected noise caused five cats to scatter. Truly, it looked like a bunch of cockroaches interrupted in the middle of the night. Their scrambling claws reminded me of a herd of rats rushing from the light.

Moosehunt.
I decided to go moosehunting this weekend. Slipping and sliding through muddy streams, up and down rocky tree-filled hills I stumbled, focused on my goal. As I slogged through the brush and swampy grasslands, I finally spotted one (bottom picture). Shooting wildy, I managed to bag the moose. Hefting it upon my shoulders, I walked for miles as I carried the heavy moose to the car. Once I got back from the wildlands, I had the head mounted and hung on my wall (top picture). The rest of the meat is hung up, in my yard (in strips) to make jerky. The neighbors are horrified. The cats are really impressed.
Okay, maybe I embellished a teensy tiny bit. My friend invited me to her birthday celebration. She held it at a really cool place. These moose were in the building. The first one is on a wall, and the second is sculpting on a light fixture. I thought these shots would be interesting pictures.
There were plenty of vegies, fruit, little sandwiches, and cake. We stuffed ourselves as we conversed. When the Mo/Ok football game came on, people surrounded the television set. Others played Mexican Dominoes. It's been years since I played dominoes. It was great fun, even if my score was high.

Sleeping it off.
Last night, I made it to bed around 7:00 pm, after washing dishes, cleaning cat box, and vacuuming. The alarm clock was set for 6:30 am. I slept through the night. I woke at 5:15 or so. I decided I could get up and start the day. Once the cats were treated and coffee brewing, I jumped on the bike for a couple minutes, and then the computer.
It started out, last week, when someone needed Friday off. Her shift was the night shift, getting off around 2:00 am. Her son had something special going on, out of town. She really wanted to be there. The boss told her she probably couldn't have the night off because there was no one to cover for her. I was supposed to work Saturday, and really needed to sleep before my shift. My conscience nagged at me. Many times I've gone to work without getting a full night's sleep (for stupid reasons). Finally, I told her I'd cover if no one else could.
After the day job was over, I headed over to the part-time job for my shift. Six were supposed to work that night, in varying shifts. The day boss told me that one called in sick. Another lady arrived for her shift. Another called in with a sick baby. The boss arrived...we were three. We worked like crazed maniacs. The other lady stayed about an hour over. Once she left, the boss and I attacked the work with a vengence. At one point, she said, "I wish I had 3 or 4 of you, oldwhitelady." Mmmmmm, my boss likes me:) When I left, around 2:30 am - and nothing more I could do - the boss said she was probably 1.5 hours ahead. She only had about an half hour left, and she could leave.
Currently, we have quite a few new people learning the job. We probably made such good time because the questions and mistakes, from a new crew - that take up time, were not there. Daylight arrived and I headed back to work. I was cranky, but made it through the day. I know I could have handled two, of the many, phone calls better. Such is life.

Friday Cat Blogging - Cotton is a fast runner.
So, Cotton decided he didn't want to strike anymore. As he came running to me, I was shocked at his coloration..and his size. I wonder if the others dyed him? There's only that little white stripe down his nose to show his original color. I wonder where he's been getting his meals? They must be chock full of vitamins and minerals! After I told him what a good boy he was, he was given treats. Yeah, sure, the others got treats, too.

People in our lives.
It's funny what we can learn from the people in our lives. I was complaining to two of my female co-workers about my 18-hour bras and how hard they are to fasten in the back. They have four hooks and eyes. As I pulled the back wings to hook, my thumb, that's been broken in the past and probably has arthritis, gets tired. I might be able to hook two eyes, but still need to hook the other two. So, I rest my thumb and try it again. If I've pulled it too tight and my hand is pressing against my back, that hurts, too. Anyway, one of them spoke up, "well, I pull the bra on backwards, fasten it, then twist the cups around front and pull the straps over my arms." The other girl agreed. I'd never thought of such a thing! It works fine. Later, when I was comenting on what we can learn from others, another friend said, "I also fasten it that way, because my arms aren't long enough to fasten it in the back."
Another impact was the actions of X. The boss who gave me a ride one icy day, last winter. One night, while I was working, Y, who travels for the company, called me and said she'd broken down in a rural area. It was about 10:00 pm. I asked her what she was going to do, could she call a garage? Of course, they're all closed by then. She said she'd call me back. When she called back, she asked me to give her her boss's number. I did so. I didn't hear any more from her.
When I went out to my car, I sat there and thought about Y. I didn't like it that she was stranded someplace very rural, and in the dark, at that. I asked myself, "what would X do?" I knew what X would do. I called Y and asked her if someone was coming for her. She said, "no, I left a message on the boss's phone, and she hasn't gotten back to me, yet." I told her to give me the directions and I would come for her. She said, "but you're off work." My answer was, "yes, that's why I can come and pick you up." She gave me the directions.
I only had to backtrack once, and that was only a mile or two:) Past towns, up and down hills, around curves I've never driven before at night, I arrived at the appointed place. I picked her up and she said, "the boss called back and said she'd come pick me up, but I told her you were already on your way. She's going to see to it that you get paid for time and mileage. She hopes you can stop at two places so she won't have to do it later, in the morning." So we did. And we made it back in good time. It was only about 100 mile round trip. Luckily, I didn't see any deer. At night, they scare me. The picture, above, is not from that night, but from a recent morning.
