FCB - Look into my eyes....

The other evening, after I'd gone to bed, Grey Feather jumped from the bed to the dresser, where she lay down to watch over me. I noticed nothing to differentiate that night from any other. A couple minutes later, coming to full wakefulness, I realized the cat walking over the pillow was Grey Feather. She lay down next to my head. I pet her while she looked at me searchingly. Several minutes later, she walked down the bed about a foot.

She lay down, pointing her head upward, toward mine. I pet her, and again, she watched me, searchingly. From what I could see, in the darkness, she would look at me and look at the blankets, very alertly. This happened, several times.

Finally, she stuck her paws under my side, catching the sheet with her claws. She stopped. With a jolt of alarm, I realized there might be a spider under me. I quickly stuck my arm under me and swept whatever I might have been laying on, away.

I felt something. I grabbed it with my hand. With a startled jump, my mind tried to figure out what this was. Then, I realized. It was soft, very soft and light.

I realized it was a fake mouse skin with the tail gone (Cotton ate that a long time ago) and the insides gone (I'm sure I stepped on it some time back). I gave it to Grey Feather who played with it, happily, until they both fell off the bed.

If anyone wants to read a good book...

Robin Cook - Mortal Fear
Dick Francis - Under Orders
Julie Garwood - Murder List
John Grisham - The Firm
Ed McBain - Downtown
Michael Palmer - The Patient
Michael Palmer - Fatal
Michael Palmer - Miracle Cure
J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The above list contains the books I've read in the last month. All were quite good; though, the heroines in Mortal Fear irritated me. This is a medical mystery examining the harvesting of human eggs. Cloning is also involved. The ending is appropriate and believable.
Under Orders is a galloping read. This is a horse racing mystery. It has to do with Internet betting and fixing races. MMmmmm, I mostly love anything written by Dick Francis.
Murder List is exceptional. A crazy crackpot killed a jogger, then a policeman. The policeman was on a "murder list" written by the heroine. (She had gone to one of those seminars and the instructor told the attendees to make a list of people their lives would be better without). The female character is one of the best! She did not disobey any of the suggestions made to keep her safe. I liked that! Too often, in books - especially in murder mysteries - the heroine will do something really stupid because she doesn't want to be "told what to do"... even if it is for her own good.
The Firm is demanding, taxing, and quick paced. Of course, there is a movie based on the book - I hadn't seen it.
Downtown is one of the most refreshing books I've read in a long time. It is a mystery with all sorts of fun twists. It starts out with one energetic crime after another... and does not stop! I'm going to re-read it before starting on Harry Potter #5.
The Patient is a medical mystery exploring brain tumor robotic surgery. To top it off, there is a very rich terrorist who wants these new surgery techniques used on his very own tumor.
Fatal is a medical mystery digging in coal mines, hazardous waste disposal, testing antibodies on human subjects, and required childhood innoculations against disease. A very scary book.
Miracle Cure is another medical mystery. It pumps a wicked story about heart problems. It reminded me of the recent pharmacy recalls and lawsuits.
The Harry Potter books are all magical stories about Harry Potter, his friends, and their escapades at Hogwarts school. I saw parts of one of these movies, recently, on regular TV. I was given the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a couple months ago. I read it and realized I wanted to read the rest of them.

Today's "word of the day" is mulct.

FCB-Rocky Girl.

Rocky Girl enjoyed playing in the grass, as you can see by the picture. I didn't realize how much she panted until I noticed her tongue lolling from her mouth, as she happily trotted along. She didn't need a leash, this time... and no trap. I can't understand why she looks so big in the picture, but looks so small when she's begging for treats. The kitties, and I, wish you a happy Friday.

Calming the water.

It's been a busy month. Too much to do, not enough time to get everything finished. Upsets and uncertainties at work. Same old, same old, I guess. It was time to take a nice long walk. We met at the park and walked at a fast pace. It was very warm out, but a nice breeze visited, now and again. My father turns 90 this week. For his birthday, he got an appointment to see his doctor. I hope you all are having a good week.

FCB-Zorro

Zorro is not my cat, but he's awfully pretty. He was a pound puppy, just like my Lady Fortuna and Grey Feather. His temperament is a lot like Lady Fortuna's. They're both friendly and sweet, but don't like to be held.

Another picture from the park.

I could hear the little beasties running through the woods. I wasn't quite afraid, but you never know. I took this beautiful picture of the tall grass on the edge of the trail. I wondered if there just might be lions or tigers about. I didn't see any, but, again, you never know.
*****************************************************
I saw an article about a suite costing $30,000.00 a night to rent. Darn! If people have that much money to spend, I wish they'd offer to help me out by paying for the four brand-spanking-new tires I just bought for my car.

Not that I figure they would... but, boy-oh-boy, what a difference new tires make. MMMmmmm! I must have knocked the old ones out of balance, some time ago. I never thought about getting them rotated, either. I thought I needed struts and shocks, but when I took the car to my mechanic's shop, several months ago, they told me the problem was from my tires. They didn't charge me for looking at the car... and they were right, about the problem!

The great outdoors.

After another working weekend, I decided it was time to get some exercise. The trail was beautiful, but hot. Off to the sides, there were birds (couldn't get any pictures) and butterflies flitting around. As I moved past the wooded areas, I noticed a couple spider webs, glowing in the sun's rays. I tried to snap a good photo, but this was the best I could do. The run/walk was tiring, but it felt good to stretch the muscles.

FCB-Cotton, once again.

Cotton knows how to have a good time. Give him a toy and something to lay on, and his day is made. We can learn a lot from cats...especially this one...like how to get the toy he wants. Once he has it, he guards it, but still manages to relax.

The other day, that very same toy was being played with by Sgt. Mango, in the hallway. Rocky Girl ran down the hall and socked the ball away, so she could play with it. I don't know how Cotton came to be in possession, but he has it, so it's his for the time being. Obviously, no bloodshed occurred. My cats know how to share:)

Checking in....

I saw this image on the wall and ran for my camera. It was too cool to let pass:)

Tonight, I was folding clothes when the phone rang. I answered it, and happily, it was my mother. She asked me why I told the world about having a stress test, but didn't tell my family.

I told her I hadn't had one... that I knew of. She said I'd written it on my blog. She doesn't have a computer, so the culprit (in this instance) has to be my sister.

Moral of this story: If you don't want your sister to tell your mother something, don't tell her how to find your blog...or don't tell the world by posting it on your blog...not that I had a stress test...I didn't...not that there's anything wrong with having one...or if I did, I must have been too stressed to tell my family:)

Making money to spend.

The weekend just flew by, didn't it? Thank goodness for that! I haven't gotten to visit many of my favorite blogs because the time factor was just not there.

I needed to have some heavy duty work done to the trailer before Rocky Girl figured out how to get out. Around my living room windows, the particle board was rotting. ...One evening, I was doing something near the window. My foot slipped toward the wall and went through the floor. I knew I needed to get that fixed as soon as possible. Payday was coming soon, so I talked to the same people who put in the bathroom and hallway floor. Yes, they could fix the areas around the windows and they could do it this weekend (before I spent my whole paycheck). I gave them the key and money for materials, during the week.

Friday night, as soon as I got back from work, I started moving things out of the way. As soon as I got up, Saturday morning, I moved cat food, water, and litter box to the main bedroom, then chased down the cats. They were all deposited in the bedroom, as well. When I headed out to work, my repair people had not yet arrived. For lunch, I still hadn't heard from them, so hurried home to see if anyone was there (I forgot to get their phone numbers).

My parking space was empty, so I unlocked the door to see if I could see anything. They had been there. The carpet had been cut and measuring done. They were out getting materials. When I got home, Saturday, the floor areas were finished, and they were working on the window frames (the old ones had water and cat damage). They were almost finished. Thirty minutes more, they had their money and I was moving furniture back in place.

Sunday, after getting back from work, I passed out. The stresses of worrying about yesterday's repair work, the cats, and making sure I was at work on time, etc., enabled me to sleep for a long period of time.

FCB - Cotton

Cotton grabbed the "seat of power" and wouldn't give it up. Luckily, a friend gave me a better computer chair, so Cotton can sit on that one all he wants. As you can see, I managed to get to the computer, today, so the kitties didn't do me in while I slept. Whew! Thank goodness for that:)

Personal physician

Have you ever had five cats angry at you? It's not pretty. And it started out as such a good day!

Lady For Tuna and Sgt Mango Goldstein had gotten a note, a month or two ago, from their personal physician, saying it was time for their yearly innoculations. I made an appointment to take them in tonight. Meanwhile, back at the home front, kitties have been scratching. The last Frontline administered was over a month ago. (This was thanks to Rocky Girl getting out and making friends with the flea-carrying feral kitties). I figured they need one or two more applications to be sure no more fleas will be bothering them.

I picked up some Frontline, after the doc gave the shots, and we came home. I gave each cat his, or her, dose of Frontline. Grey Feather seems to have gotten a taste of it; she came running through the living room and up onto something high, licking air. I'm hoping it doesn't cause her any further problems, but I have her physician's number on speed-dial, just in case.

So... if no Friday Cat Blogging post shows up on Friday... and if no further posts show up, you'll know they got revenge while I was sleeping.

Oh, and I found my car's Owner's Manual. It's now in the car:)
