Aches and Bruises
When I have a weekend off, I find there are many things I want to do. After a late night of work, I had a bike ride waiting for me, Saturday. It was a great day. The friend and grandkids enjoyed themselves...as I did.
It's always fun to listen to bike horn echoes, as you ride through one of these. Just ask the grandkids.
Sunday, My sister asked me to come over to ride horses. I didn't realize she had an ulterior motive. Once I got there, I found out I needed to unclog the sink, before we could go riding. I was happy to do so.Jeremiah always seemed to have so much energy. I didn't realize I'd ride the poor thing into the ground. However, pictures don't lie. Again, I'm reminded that I need to lose some weight!
I have aches and bruises from the fun filled weekend. When riding horses, I tend to wear shorts. The saddle rubs against my thighs, creating blue and purple coloration. I'll take the bruises. The ride was terrific!

FCB-Escaped cat.
The usual cats were on strike this week. They demanded cleaner litter boxes, more available cat food, and *GOOD* cat treats. Some will eat anything given to them (Mango & Rocky Girl). Others lift their noses when I attempt to give them certain treats. I have to remember who will eat what. I like to give them a variety. They all enjoy the Whiskas Temptations, but not every flavor. Sometimes, the store is out of the good stuff, and I might pick up a container of Whisker Lickins. The crunchy one-flavor treats are tolerated, but the fancy, soft, multi-flavored are scorned.
Filling in is Stanley. He's a wild cat, escaped from the zoo, I think. I saw him running toward me. I ran screaming, dropping junk out of my purse as I fumbled for the cell phone. Who does one call in a situation such as that? I called Walmart Pharmacy.... ha ha ha ha ha :)
Happy Friday! As always, check out the wonderful animal pictures linked for Friday Ark at The Modulator.

Medical mystery
I'm going to tell you a little story.
Back in August, my father turned 90 years old. We had a little party for him at my sister's house. I noticed this huge red spot on his forehead and I asked my mother what it was. She said, "he says it's cancer and he's not going to the doctor."
I said, "skin cancer?"
My sister said, "no, prostate cancer."
I realized my silly question and we laughed...not about Pa's painful forehead, but about my stupid question.
Later in the week, I asked my mother how Pa was. She said he'd been applying a warm compress against that red spot, and a scab fell off and the red was going away, but the pain was going to his eye.
Another day and I called to tell about something. She listened to me and then told me that Pa's eye was hurting him so much, she finally talked him into going to her physician. The doctor examined him and said he had a piece of wood stuck in his eye - (my parents only have wood heat, so Pa goes out and chops wood to get ready for winter) - which the doc could not remove. He'd call the hospital and set an appointment. My father started griping about the cost (and when he starts griping, he goes on and on) so my mother told the doc to never mind. She'd call back to get the referral after my father settled down.
A day or so passed and Pa is in terrific pain.
"When is my appointment?" he asked.
"You don't have one," my mother told him.
Well, he was in so much pain, she called up the doc and asked him to get that appointment set up. The doc's office called, but the eye doctors were busy that day, and could not schedule an appointment. They said to take Pa to the emergency room.
Once at the emergency room, the ER doc could not find that piece of wood. So, he set up a consult with the eye doctor in the hospital. The eye doc's nurse couldn't find any wood in Pa's eye. The doc shows up and looks and he can't find any wood in Pa's eye. He tells Pa that the wood could have come out on its own from the compress he'd been applying all along. He has Pa remove his cap from his head.
Said the doc, "you have shingles."
The doc put Pa on medication and he's on the mend. Feeling much better, in fact.

Just a day like any other.
Stairs, stairway, stairwell, steps. What would you call this concrete stairway if you had to describe it to someone? I was walking down the sidewalk, one day, recently. I've walked this sidewalk many times. For some reason, this stairway came into my focus. I don't recall seeing it before! How can that be? I'm sure it didn't pop up during the prior evening, or during the past couple weeks or month I've not walked that way.
Sometimes the news is like that, to me, too. I don't watch it on tv anymore, I get the paper, but not daily. I listen to NPR, but not every day. I read blogs, but not every day. Every once in a while something jumps out at me and I'll say, or think, "I didn't realize...."

FCB-Grey Feather
My television sits on a large entertainment case. Odds and ends sit at the side, as well as a painting I plan to someday finish. Every once in a while, I will come home to find teensy cat and mouse figurines or other small things, that might sit up there, on the floor, and the painting moved. I've found who the culprit is. Happy Friday!

Traffic accidents
One day, recently, I was on my way to work, running ahead of time. I was thinking of all the stuff I could get accomplished before the day really took off, once I arrived at the shop. I could even get a close parking space!
Ha... I ended up stuck in traffic. An accident had happened only minutes before. I had to call work and tell them I'd be late. I also called my mother. We had a nice leisurely conversation, so it wasn't a really bad morning, except for the people in the accident. I hope they weren't severely injured.

Visiting Sis.
Brenda.
Sis has two black cats, but you can easily tell them apart because Brenda's the one sticking out her tongue.Jeremiah.
This picture is after the ride and after he rolled. Sis invited me to come out and ride horses, since I actually had the weekend off. Instead of riding Hermie as I usually do, she let me ride Jeremiah, which was definitely a treat. He's a fun horse to ride. His trot is actually less jarring than I expected. That's a good thing, because he likes to trot, arching his neck and lifting his feet in a fancy manner...and his gallop! Marvelous!Millie and Prince VanDoe.
Sis rode Millie. Millie is the tallest of Sis's horses...and fast! They took off and we managed to pass them, after Sis slowed Millie down. As we were riding side by side, Millie turned to Jeremiah and laid her ears back. Sis says she was telling Jeremiah, "you didn't beat us!" (A couple years ago, I rode Millie on a trail ride. She jumped a small creek and I fell off. I don't think I was paying attention. The fall was in soft dirt and I broke nothing. Maybe, I'll be allowed to ride her again, someday:) Yesterday, after riding, I had to come home and take a nap. Today, my muscles slightly ache. Obviously, I don't ride often enough.
Some other photos are posted at the other blog.

FCB-Mango figures resting is always good.
Mango's views on what a day should be composed of: Eating, sleeping, playing, kitty litter break, eating, sleeping, eating, sleeping, resting, napping, eating, resting, eating, getting pettings, eating, resting, eating, kitty litter break, sleeping, getting pettings, eating, and sleeping.
Mango thinks Fixer at Alternate Brain is really cool. He likes Gordon and all the others who blog there, too, but he likes that Fixer writes at the The Practical Press. He wanted me to make sure to point out Fixer's Contest ... sort of. Be sure to vote...often:)

Church on Sunday.
I ended up having to work the weekend. For the past couple months, I've been thinking about taking the kayak out for a ride, but am usually too tired to pull it off the couch and tie it to the top of the car, once I get back from work.
There is a lake that I wanted to visit. I wasn't sure if I knew how to get there, and I certainly didn't want to drive around with the boat on the car if I couldn't find the place. Yesterday, after work, I took off to find the place. It was pretty easy to get to. Friday, they told us we'd be able to leave at noon on Sunday.
My plan was to tie the kayak on the car and go to work. After work, I could head on out to the lake. Yesterday, we found out that we would not get to leave at noon. We would have to be there until 2:00, at least. I left the kayak home. At 2:30pm, I headed back home to take a nap. The kayak kept making noises that it wanted to go out to the lake. Fine! I threw it on the car and headed out. It was beautiful!
