Sargent Mango Goldstein
I've become too predictable.
One of my co-workers got here and I said, "Guess what I have?"
"A picture of a cat." was the response....it was.

Cotton - He's getting chubby.
Drat!
I left blogger yesterday at a place where blogger comments had been put back into the template. When I posted today, it updated and showed the previous comments, BUT did not show the comments! I went back over to Haloscan (not at home where the back-up is) and re-installed. I took off Trackback, but have no idea why that arrow and and 2 dashes show up. That's it... No more changes... Until next time:)

Interesting tree
This is actually a color photo, but from the angle I took the picture, the light causes it to look almost black and white.
Still trying to upload pictures.
I went to photobucket.com as Wanda suggested. I managed to upload a picture, but when I sent it here, I get "Blog error N". I didn't see any explanation. I guess I will keep trying:( Of course, Hello wouldn't upload it to this blog either. I wonder if it is blogger. I notice Atrios has a post about blogger eating his posts.
update Well, photobucket sent the picture, but it's too large. I wonder how to make it smaller?
update update Figured it out:)

Moonbats..moonbats..moonbats
While I was at afarensis: Proud Member of the Reality-Based Community, I noticed a picture of a moonbat on the right side of his blog. afarensis says "The moonbat picture is linked to a site where can can get your own, free, copy. The creator, Chris Clarke at Creek Running North, does ask that if you take a copy you link to his site. If you haven't been there, it's an interesting site." When I clicked on the picture, I was taken to the blog Creek Running North where Chris explains about his icons.
Something different to look at.
Afarensis has the cutest little creature posted on his blog.Fairy Armadillo
Wow! What a cute little creature.
Oh oh, I guess it's endangered, too.

Easter weekend
Just a thought. Today, should not be the complete crazy fest it is sometimes, because people have festivities to go to, usually, for Easter---should make my day a lot easier:) YEAH!
The little things in life can help make a day go well.
Last night as I was laying in bed, trying to get to sleep, a cat jumped up at the end of the bed, walked to the right side, and lay down. A couple minutes later, another cat jumped up on the bed and lay down on my ankles. As the second cat licked himself (noisely), then kind of moved around a bit to get comfortable, I thought that I could identify them just by their actions. I thought that the cat on the right was my sweet Saddie and the cat on my ankles was Sgt. Mango. Well, of course, I had to rouse myself enough to see who was who. I was right:) Being right in litttle things like that can keep a person happy.
As I left to go to work this morning, Saddie was in the bay window watching me. I had my camera and took pictures of him. Guess what I'm going to upload to my blog when I get home?

It's Friday
Wow, I was worried that I would be at my second job until all hours this morning. It turned out that we called in the dayboss and she helped out. I got out 20 minutes later than I was slated to, so that's ok. I was also worried about getting enough rest. I have to work the day job and the evening job tonite, then work the weekend at the part-time job. The weekend consists of getting there at 8:00 am, leaving at 4:00 pm. Just a regular day. Perhaps, I'll catch up on some sleep.
As I was walking this morning, I noticed the trees had water on the ends of their limbs. It would have been a fantastic picture. Too bad my camera's at home.

Just haven't felt like turning on the computer
I have had a busy week - I finally feel better - still have a cough, though. Still taking over the counter drugs, too. Tuesday, I had to zoom back to my town to help with a former co-worker's retirement. Then had to go pick up meds, cat food, cat litter. I went to bed early. Wed., one of my carpool riders had to get back to our town asap. I drove like a maniac and made it there (not in record time, though) then had to meet a friend to walk. We walked and I coughed. She kept commenting about my cough. I told her I was at the end of it, flu gone, cough hanging on for a couple more days. I got home, read for a bit and went to bed at 8:30. I have to go in to my other job tonite and work the boss's hours since she is taking off. I get to close, which means leaving at 12:00 or 1:00. I hope 12:00. At least I got some good sleep this week.

Against my better judgement, I'm posting the picture of my home computer workspace. I really should have cleaned it up. This is for Steve Bates,
NTodd, and Wanda. If you click on their names, you can see their computer workspaces, too.
Update - Weblackey got in the spirit of things and posted her home computing area, too.

Cotton wishing he could go outside. He was pawing the water trails on the glass so he could get a good view. I think there was a bird out there, teasing him.
Well, this little kitty doesn't have a bottle laying behind him or around him, but he's awfully tired.

Over 55 in U.S.? Get Back to Work!
Over 55 in U.S.? Get Back to Work! by Seth Sandronsky
...There are two factors driving the flood of older workers into the labor market, says Baker, who co-directs the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC. One is the falling value of retirees' 401(k)s invested in the stock market. Five years ago the stock market bubble burst, falling from its record heights that were supposed to bring prosperity to all forever. Since then, 401(k) retirement pensions have not bounced back to their pre-2000 stock market values. And they remain over-valued by historic averages. Thus retirees' 401(k)s can fall much more, lousy news for them, indeed...
..."In February 1999, there 16,953,000 people over age 55 who were working," Baker says. "Last month there were 22,772,000, an increase of more than 35 percent. This is especially striking since job growth had collapsed for everyone else after March 2001."..
Oh, boy!

Brand USA is in Trouble, So Take a Lesson from Big Mac. Instead of changing his foreign policy, President Bush is changing the story. by Naomi Klein
...Brand USA's latest story was launched on January 30, the day of the Iraqi elections, complete with a catchy tag line ("purple power"), instantly iconic imagery (purple fingers) and, of course, a new narrative about America's role in the world, helpfully told and retold by the White House's unofficial brand manager, the New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. "Iraq has been reframed from a story about Iraqi 'insurgents' trying to liberate their country from American occupiers and their Iraqi 'stooges' to a story of the overwhelming Iraqi majority trying to build a democracy, with US help, against the wishes of Iraqi Ba'athist fascists and jihadists." ...

The Bankruptcy Bill: a Tutorial in GreedLesson No. 1 -- Campaign cash is worth more than family values by Robert Scheer
Robert starts off with question and answer:
Question: What is the difference between a loan shark and a banker?
Answer: Not much. The former uses hired thugs to enforce repayment from the debtors; the latter employs the feds as paid muscle.
...This subject is not an academic one for young Americans, because after high school they will become prime targets for predatory lenders, plastic-peddlers who just love to offer easy lines of credit to kids without jobs or even degrees. Once a student has that first shopping spree at the college bookstore, he or she is often off and running in a cycle of unsecured debt that can last a lifetime...
Absolutely. When I was in college, there were ads for credit cards all over the Student Union. It is so easy to get into debt. I paid for all my college education on credit cards. I should have taken out student loans. I figured I was working and could make the credit card payments monthly and would have it paid sooner. I did have it paid sooner. The problem was that my credit limits were so high, a friend had some great ideas for a company that were also put on my credit card. The company didn't fly and I ended up with huge balances that need to be paid.

Stupid TV news...
Tonite, I was watching the news after "Simpsons" was over. They were talking about if Condeleeza Rice was going to run in 2008. She says not. Ack! I would hope not! I hope Hillary doesn't, either. At this point, I see nothing worthy in either woman. Oh, good grief! Look what Americablog has... a link to an entire contest devoted to Condi.
Sgt Mango still has the problem with his eye. It's better, but I need to take him to the vet, again. Just finding the time is difficult.
Haven't had time to post, really.
So, here's the story. After being sick all last weekend, Mon and Tue, I went to work on Wed. Thurs, I had to also work at the part-time job. I was supposed to leave at 10:30 that evening, but we were so backlogged (an hour of it was computer related) that I finally got to leave at 12:30 am. Friday, I got to regular job 10 minutes late, but stayed 10 mins at the end of the day - no biggie. I had to go to part-time job. Got out of there at 10:45pm. The St Patty's day run was Saturday, 8:00am. One of my friends agreed to work the hour at my part-time job so I could run. I made the 3 miles in 44 minutes... Not good, I know. Anyway, got to work at 9:00am. Worked all day and was supposed to leave at 4:00pm... left at 4:35pm, more like. I got home, played with the kitties. I watched Wheel of Fortune then went to bed. I slept pretty good. I finally got up at 6:45 AM. The sleep sure helped. I guess as I get older, I find that naps and a good night's sleep works wonders! Yay!

Some new posts from Riverbend...
I enjoy reading Riverbend's blog, Baghdad Burning. I was pretty happy to see that she had blogged yesterday and today. Yesterday, she wrote about the Italian journalist who had originally been kidnapped and then set free. As Sgrena was being brought back, the car she was riding in was attacked by US gunfire. She was wounded and an Italian intelligence officer was killed.
...I don’t understand why Americans are so shocked with this incident. Where is the shock? That Sgrena’s car was under fire? That Americans killed an Italian security agent? After everything that occurred in Iraq- Abu Ghraib, beatings, torture, people detained for months and months, the stealing, the rape… is this latest so very shocking? Or is it shocking because the victims weren’t Iraqi?...
Part of her post today was about an email she received about an internet petition to nominate Sistani for the Nobel Peace Prize. Her thoughts on that are pretty amusing.

The Development Of War Propaganda
The Development Of War Propaganda by David Miller.
...Needless to say we didn’t see any of the footage of either the ‘dumb’ bombs or the smart bombs which missed. But even when the smart weapons hit their targets, civilians died, as in the case of the al-Amariyah bunker in Baghdad which was not a military installation but an air raid shelter. This time the US and UK are claiming that most bombs will be of the smart variety and that the technology has been improved. According to the British Ministry of Defence, ‘greater attention to precision-guided weapons means we could have a war with zero civilian casualties’. [6] This statement was falsified on the first night of bombing when between three and five Iraqi civilians were hit by shrapnel.
The emphasis on the clean war again is an attempt to divert attention from the fact that weapons of mass destruction such as depleted uranium tipped shells and ‘bunker buster’ and ‘daisy cutter’ bombs will be used. Conjuring up the smell of freshly mowed grass, the daisy cutter is actually a bomb the size of a small car which destroys everything in an area the size of a football pitch. It is said to resemble a small nuclear bomb...
Very interesting article. I hadn't thought about the way the names of these weapons would be perceived, but reading Miller's comments, I understand what he's saying. "Daisy Cutter" does bring the image of daisies to me.

I still feel sick, so thought I would just put up a photo or two. Here's a picture of me in my car. The lady at the front of the car is my mother. Note the cat paw holding the photo down so I could take a picture of it? My cats are so darned helpful. That cat, especially.

Earlier in the week, I mentioned a website, Babelfish that can translate text to different languages. I used it (keeping in mind the comments from Jeffraham and Steve Bates that it can corrupt the text) and I still found it useful. It helps that I can just slap the text in there and viola, can get the gist of what my Spanish blog friends are saying. I visited Liky's blog and she had a post about visiting the eye doctor. I wrote a comment on her page in English, I converted it to Spanish, then back to English.
My original comment:
Too much computer can cause eye strain. I hope with some rest to your eyes, it will abate. By the way, thank you for the Alta-vista link - I love it!
Spanish Conversion:
Demasiada computadora puede causar la tensión del ojo. Espero con un cierto resto a sus ojos, él disminuiré. ¡A propósito, gracias por el acoplamiento de Alta-Vista - amor de I él!
Spanish converted back to English:
Too much computer can cause the tension of the eye. I wait for with a certain rest its eyes, he I will diminish. To intention, thanks for the connection of High-Vista - love of I he!

If Syria Is Expected To Withdraw from Lebanon, Shouldn’t Israel Withdraw From the Occupied Territories?
by Bill Fletcher, Jr.
...That said, we now are treated to regular sermons by the Bush administration about the unfair and illegal existence of the Syrian deployment of troops to Lebanon without any acknowledgement that (1)the US is occupying Iraq, with no end in sight, and (2)to the south of Lebanon there is an occupation and military deployment that has been going on since 1967. Needless to say I am referencing the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands...
...So, we are told that somehow Syrian troop deployments in Lebanon are bad, while Israeli troops and settlements on Palestinian territory are either acceptable or are to be treated with respectful silence...
I've wondered at this question, myself. Isn't this hypocritical? Of course, I realize that there has been too much hypocricy during the shrubbery reign. I just wish it would stop! I am so sick of the mindset for this admin: "Do what I say, not as I do."

God works in mysterious ways.
Bush credits God with Middle Eastern "Freedom Movement".
Wouldn't you think he would credit the military? Shouldn't he be crediting the many boys and girls who gave up their life and/or limbs for his Freedom Crusade? I don't think "God" waged this war. If "God" did, I wonder who "God" really is.
Why the U.S. Must Get Out of Iraq, Pronto Maj. General Harry Upman (retired) contends that we have lost 4000 military (by death - either in Iraq or while being moved to Germany or other bases) and over 10,000 have been wounded. ...According to a report I heard last night on Frontline on PBS, 1 in 6 of our people coming home from Iraq need mental help...
...What have we gained in Iraq? Absolutely nothing. What have we lost? Our leadership in the world militarily, morally and financially.
...What has this man's army come to? Have we totally lost our honor? To be a military man in this army means to be immoral, a liar, to accuse the innocent and to not grieve for killing women and children...

working
SO... at my day job, Influenza A is rearing it's ugly head. Lot's of people out. I caught something and don't feel as wonderful as I should.
At my part-time job, several people quit in my department. I have to go in whether sick or not, since they need the people who know what they're doing.
Last night, there were two longer time employees & the night supervisor there, and 3 new people. The work does not get done as fast when newbies are trying to learn.
In another department, 3 other people gave their notice.
Since the part-time place hires a lot of part-time employees, these employees usually have a second job or are going to school. Every now and then, someone will quit and that will cause other people to think "Hey, I'm pretty caught up on my bills, I am tired of working this second job." Or they finish school and are ready to go out and find a job in their major.

I learn something new every day.
I received an E-mail from Liky, who has the blog Liky Against the World, containing an address of a very helpful webpage called Babelfish. You can take a block of text and change it from, say, English and translate it to Spanish, French, etc. or vice versa. I think this will be VERY helpful in my attempts to learn Spanish. Thank you Liky!

This is definitely good news. Talk about "bad apples", maybe the tree will get shaken, good and proper!
